Prolactin secretion.
Dopamine is formed in the hypothalamus and stored in the mediam eminence. It is secreted in to the hypothalamo-hypophysial portal vessels to inhibit prolactin release tonically from pituitary lactotrophs. Any disruption of this pathway may therefore result in hyperprolactinaemia.
